The camera cuts to a man sitting at a bar, in one hand is a drink and the other a pen, looking down he’s staring at a contract. This man is “Hangman” Adam Page, he swivels round on his stool and looks at the camera, he has a serious look on his face.
Hangman: You know ever since I got this.
Hangman lifts up the contract.
Hangman: I’ve had a lot to think about, currently my career is pretty safe, i’m in a steady company and my pay is great but what Pat said in his email struck me hard, I do remember waking up and watching CCW, trading tapes of it with my friends and staying up late on Sundays to watch PPV with my dad, “Just don’t tell your mom”.
Hangman chuckles and takes a sip of his Whiskey.
Hangman: I’d watch these men put it all on the line and as a kid you know you see these men as gods, as actual heroes and actual villains, people you could cheer on with all your heart and boo with all your might, to me that’s what wrestling was about, not the money or the contracts but being the best and being recognised as one of the best, no matter how much money you made.
He looks contemplatively at the contract and takes another drink.
Hangman: For a while I was doing that, putting on great matches on the indies all around the world, America, Japan, Europe, I was one of the best and I showed it but somewhere along the way I got lost off that path and I became less a worker and more of a gimmick, the cowboy who liked to drink, no longer was I the promising upstart, I was just the guy in chaps and constantly drinking and while I could still put on the same great matches, there was something missing, I felt like I wasn’t me and I needed a way out, then I got this.
Hangman lifts up the contract again.
Hangman: I wished for an opportunity and it landed right in my lap, well technically it landed in my mailbox and my wife placed it in my lap but anyway, opportunity came knocking and now I need to decide whether or not to answer the door. My current job offers me basically protection for the rest of my career and guaranteed money but I don’t see much room for growth, on the other hand CCW will allow that growth and for me to prove myself again but its also an uncertainty, for weeks i’ve agonised over this decision and then last night I came to a realisation.
Hangman turns round and shouts for the barkeep, he leans in and asks for a pen, the barkeep hands him one.
Hangman: I realised that nothing is guaranteed in this life and sometimes you just gotta say fuck it and take the leap.
Hangman signs the contract and finishes his drink, turning back round to the camera.
Hangman: That’s it official now, Hangman is now in CCW and i’m looking to the future, not the past. Pat I promise you whoever you put me up against I am going to give them my all in that ring and you will not regret this decision.
Hangman finishes his drink and winks at the camera as he does, getting up from his stool and walking away, a logo coming onto screen and saying “Debuting Soon” below it.
TWO DAYS LATER
The camera cuts to Hangman in his garage gym, he’s doing weighted squats with a barbell across his back, there seems to be at least 200lbs on there, walking into the rack , Hangman places the weight down and takes a seat, looking at the camera.
Hangman: So two days since I signed my contract and Pat does not like to wait around, as soon as I sent it back I got an email telling me who I would be facing on my first night in CCW and I guess he took me seriously when I said I was looking to prove myself worthy of this opportunity because he’s put me up against a man who definitely screams that.
Hangman points at the TV currently on in the garage, on the screen is Bobby Lashley who has just speared his opponent sending him flying, the referee counts the pin and raises Bobby’s hand but Bobby’s new manager Elijah Burke slides in and pushes the referee aside and raises his client’s hand.
Hangman: The “Dominator” himself, Bobby Lashley, a guy who is almost unparalleled in the ring in strength and speed, a man his size shouldn’t move the way he does but his actions do speak for themselves and when they’re not speaking for themselves he has someone else to do that for him, Elijah Burke, a wizard on the mic and is also great in the ring himself, together they are an almost unbeatable force.
Hangman cracks a smile.
Hangman: And I look forward to the challenge, you see Bobby i’m looking forward to the challenge because like i’ve said plenty of times, I am here to prove myself and I can’t think of any better way than to make “The Dominator” my first victim in this company, if I could take someone like him down it’ll make an impression and that is what’s important here because first impressions can go a long way and I intend to leave a strong one.
Hangman pulls out a bottle of Jack Daniels from a cooler and opens it up and pours a glass, looking at the camera.
Hangman: Yeah I know I said I wanted to be known less for the drinking cowboy stuff but i’m not going to stop drinking, I enjoy it too much and I have a lot of stuff to get through so don’t think i’m getting rid of everything fun, the drinks will still be flowing when the Hangman is about and Bobby once I beat you on Heat i’m going to celebrate the only way I know how, drinking Jack.
Hangman cheers his drink as the camera fades to black.
